It would be a good hobby during very hot periods of time. You do not have to have any previous rock painting, or any painting talent at all. Have you noticed painted rocks by the mailbox entry? I left them for anyone that would want them. They are always gone the next time I go check our mail, and leave another rock. I've received feedback for a couple of the rocks I left there. One is on its' way to WI by a Sunshine resident. If you are interested, please let me know by contacting me per my information below. Depending on interest, or not, I will be providing further details on how this would work. Best days, times, etc. Those that are interested could go to FB Harlingen Rocks to get a glimpse of "painted rocks"! Anyone could enjoy this activity with no previous painting or art experience. Karren Amos ph 309-781-3479 email karrenaamos@gmail.com I look forward to hearing from you soon. Back to Top
- Men's Golf Rules of Play_2008 | Sunshine Estates
SSCCE MEN'S LEAGUE RULES OF PLAY Updated 03/25/08 Fairways: Fairways are defined as any portion of the course not considered to be "Out of Bounds", a "Hazard" (sand or water), or the "Green". 1. Ball may be moved 12 inches on the fairways at any time (no closer to the pin). 2. Ball may be moved off of bare ground (no closer to the pin). 3. Ball may be "Picked, Cleaned and Placed" at any time. An unplayable ball may be moved 2 club lengths from the following: (no closer to the pin). In bounds but next to "Out of Bounds" marker or wall. Ground under repair. Short of going into water or where Water Hazard impedes stance. Man made objects. On hole #2, a ball between the sidewalk and the water may be moved 2 club lengths east or south of the sidewalk but not closer to the pin. 5. "Out of Bounds" and "Water Hazards" Course boundaries are indicated by white posts and/or low cement or wood barriers. A ball must be completely beyond the boundary line to be considered "Out of Bounds". Water hazard boundaries are considered to be the inside vertical face, and it's vertical extension, of the cement sand bag walls of the hazard. A ball hitting the vertical face of the sand bag wall and falling into the water without touching ground beyond the vertical extension is deemed to be in the hazard and not be the point at which it entered the hazard. A Ball lodging in the wall (space between cement sand bags) of a water hazard is deemed to be in the hazard. Drop point for lodged ball will be where it last crossed the hazard boundary before lodging. All balls "Out of Bounds" or in a "Water Hazard" will be played from the point they cross the "Out of Bounds" boundary or "Water Hazard" boundary. The ball will be dropped no more than 2 club lengths from the point where it crossed the boundary line (no closer to the pin) (1 penalty stroke). If the shot that enters "Out of Bounds" or a "Water Hazard", from a teed ball, the player has the option to re-tee and incur the standard "Stroke and Distance" penalty. Ie. Player hits ball OB or in the water, re-tees and lands in the "fairway". The player now lies 3. Exception to above rule. If a ball is hit from the 7th tee into the "Out of Bounds" behind the 6th green, the ball may be put into play by dropping in front of the 7th tee with a one stroke penalty or may be reteed with utilizing the standard "Stroke and Distance" rule. On hole #9, if a ball enters the water left of the green or past the bridge on the right side of the green or over the green, use the nearest drop zone. The drop zones are located in front of the lake on the left side and past the bridge on the right side. Drop zones will be marked during tournaments (l stroke penalty). On hole #2, a ball in the water may be moved 2 club lengths east or south of the sidewalk but not closer to the pin (l stroke penalty). 6. Sand Traps Grounding club except for your down swing (2 stroke penalty). Picking up your ball (2 stroke penalty). A ball may be picked up and marked when 2 balls are side by side in a trap. The ball may not be cleaned and must be placed as close as possible to the original position and condition of lie after the first player hits (no penalty). 7. Casual Water "Casual Water" is defined as any water pooling on the course in any place not designated as a "Water Hazard". Pooling can be considered to occur if water is evident around the sole of your shoe when you stand in a wet spot. When in doubt, consult with playing partners. If doubt still exists, play the original and a provisional and consult with the tournament director when the round is completed. When in "Casual Water", the ball may be moved back or laterally to gain complete relief (no closer to pin). No penalty. 8. Bridges All bridges will be treated as cart paths. If a ball comes to rest on a bridge the ball may be played as it lies or it may be dropped at the closest point of relief, no closer to the hole, and be played without penalty. Tee Box: The "Tee Box" is defined as the area on the teeing ground between the tee markers. The "Tee Box" extends from the front edge of the tee markers to a point two clubs lengths behind the front edge of the tee markers. Only the ball must be within the tee box when teeing off. If the ball is outside the Tee Box when put into play a one stroke penalty will be assessed and the ball must be re-teed and put into play from the Tee Box. 1. When teeing off, a tee must be used. 2. All whiffs are counted. A whiff is when you address the ball, swing and miss. 3. If a struck ball does not clear the tee ground, the ball will be played as it lies. Greens: The "Green" is that area of closely mowed grass surrounding the cup. The "Fringe" is the slightly longer grass surrounding the green. For our purposes, the "Fringe" shall be treated as "Fairway". When marking a ball, the marker should be placed behind the ball. If the marker is in the line of another player's putt the marker may be moved to the side as far as deemed necessary by the player whose line is infringed. The ball will be returned to its original position before putting. Failure to return the ball to the original position will result in a one stoke penalty. If the penalty is assessed for failure to putt from the original position, the ball must be placed in the original position and putted. A two stroke penalty will be assessed if, while putting on the green, you play from another player's marker. A two stroke penalty is assessed for your ball striking another player's ball that is lying on the "Green" while putting your ball from any spot on the "Green". A two stroke penalty is assessed for hitting a club or flagstick lying on the "Green" when putting. 5. The flag may be in or out when chipping or putting from the fringe. If your ball is on the "Green" and the hole cannot be clearly seen, you may ask to have it attended. The flag must be removed before the ball gets to the hole. 7. A player may putt out ahead of turn if it is agreeable with the next player. Effective Nov. 1st, 2007, ALL PUTTS MUST BE HOLED IN LEAGUE PLAY. THERE WILL BE NO GIMMEES! Approved by a membership vote on February 20th 2007. Other Rules or Situations Not Covered by Above Rules: USGA rules will deem to be in place when situations or rulings not covered by the afore mentioned rules occur. In all situations the Rules Committee, made up of the League Officers, or their designee(s), will make the final ruling when disputes or rules questions occur. If, while playing, a situation occurs that the players are unsure of, playa provisional ball with deemed relief as well as the original ball as it lies and the Rules Committee will make a determination of the correct score for the hole after the round. Common Golf Courtesy: 1. Exit the "Green" as soon as all golfers have finished putting. 2. Record your scores on the next tee. 3. Do not drive or park carts within 15 feet of the fringe of the "Green". 4. REPAIR ARE ALL BALL MARKS ON "GREEN". 5. Repair and replace all divots on the "Tee Box" or fill them with available sand. 6. Share carts when possible! 7. Rake sand traps after use. 8. Do Not run golf carts through casual water. 9. No practice chipping to the "Greens". Do not spend excessive time looking for a lost ball (5 minutes should be Maximum limit). 11. No loud noises while a golfer is taking a shot. 12. Golfers 90 years or older may hit from the women's "Tee Box" if they desire. 13. Do not drive golf carts between sand traps and "Greens". 14. Practice putting only on the PRACTICE GREEN. Be respectful of workers. Wait till they have completed their task, have waved you up, or are aware of you hitting at them. Revised 4/15/07

Call me with questions at any time. - Beth Parrish, 2024 Board Election Committee Chairperson Email: 2024boardelectioncommittee@gmail.com 314-960-6710 Sent 2024-01-25: NW-CERT: Minutes, Jan 15, 2024 - Please take the time to read the minutes from our meeting on Jan 15, which can be found HERE . -- Lenore J Combs 956 245 1276, Coordinator Sunshine NW-CERT Team Sent 2024-01-25: Retiring sepoenews@gmail.com - Two things - in a Nutshell: SEPO emails will start coming to you from sepoenews@sunshinecountryclub.com instead of sepoenews@gmail.com . When sending information to this address for me to send to the community, please include your email address along with your name. If you want to know 'why', keep reading. FIRST: I have been informed by the SEPO email system we use (BREVO) that "gmail" and "google" are tightening up their restrictions on being able to send/receive bulk emails. They are doing this to prevent/cut down on the number of SPAM emails you receive. And that's a good thing. Since sepoenews@gmail.com is definitely a bulk sender and the majority of the Sunshine community uses gmail to received SEPO emails, I'm currently working on retiring sepoenews@gmail.com as the sending email address. I will keep this gmail account open for a while until I'm sure I have done everything I need to with the new one, which is sepoenews@sunshinecountryclub.com . The only thing you, as the receiver, need to do is ensure the new sending email address is not considered spam when you receive it. I did send the 'pool update' email last evening using the new email, so if you didn't get it check, your spam folder. SECOND: BREVO has implemented a new feature that allows me to enter in the 'reply to' slot the email address of the person who sent me the information. That way when anyone replies to a SEPO email it will go the composer of the email and not back to me. I will be updating the email guidelines to request you include your email address along with your name when you send me something to email to the community. Otherwise, I will have to go to the directory to look you up every time I send an email for you. Just think of it as if someone was replying directly to you when you post something on Facebook, instead of a middle-man. So onward & upward. Please call with any questions or if you have any issues with this ongoing. - Beth Parrish, SEPO Enews Email Manager Email: sepoenews@sunshinecountryclub.com 314-960-6710 Sent 2024-01-24: Wednesday pool update - Pool update as of 4:45 Wednesday, January 24, 2024. - Heater is running, thanks again to Lalo, and water temps are on the way up. We thought we were recording the "Meet & Greet" session via Google Meet, but have not received anything from Google. And I'm betting we don't. For my own benefit, I had turned on my tape recorder. Although you may hear some paper rustling in the background, I think for the most part, this will provide valuable information to those who could not attend the session yesterday. And to those who did, it can be a refresher. Here's another kicker - darn it. I didn't look down to see my recorder wasn't on until after the three candidates had introduced themselves. I so totally apologize for missing that section. The recording does start: When I opened the session up to questions to the Board candidates. That was followed by an explanation of the three ballots by the Board, followed by lots of very good questions. Then I spoke and also answered questions about the ballot / voting processes themselves. Again, lots of great questions were asked. And we munched on sweets provide by the Women's Club throughout the entire event. Yum. You can access the audio recording here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1t3rQyMAf8IGklH9HXktu_5ozL-LD0LRs/view?usp=sharing The file is very large, so please be patient when listening to it, as I had to store it in an area I don't normally use. If you have any questions, either with the technology or the election, please don't hesitate to contact me. And for me personally, that means it's time to think about the Oct 2023 Sunshine Newsletter. Yep, that's right, you all need to start thinking about those great articles you are going to be composing and sending to me, the once-again Sunshine Newsletter Editor. Normally you will be getting Newsletter Reminders on the 17th and 23rd of each month from September thru February. But since this is the first edition of the season, I'm giving you an early reminder. I spent part of Saturday reviewing and making some slight updates to the Newsletter Guidelines. The updated document is available on the website HERE . Again, I’m thinking this first Newsletter in particular, would be a great opportunity for everyone who manages or participates in one of our clubs (like Women's Club or Rock Painting) or activities (like Golf) to ‘get the word out’ about them. I’m hoping that you provide the following types of information for this Newsletter, in addition to the normal Activities info for the month of October: Club/Activity Name Contact Name(s) Is there a Board? Do you ‘meet’? If so, where and when? Are meeting minutes, etc. provided? General Description. Some of this info is on the Website (but may need to be updated ) HERE AND HERE . What needs to be updated/corrected on these pages? What else can be displayed on these pages? What additional pages do we need/want? This is a perfect opportunity: For you to review and become more familiar with the Website . For me to get the Website updated with current and correct info. Remind the community of what a great place Sunshine is to live. As always: Please provide your articles to me – by September 24 at the latest. The earlier the better. When you have your article prepared, please submit it to seponewsletter@gmail.com . If you need some examples of prior year Newsletters, they can be found HERE . Thank you all in advance for helping me get the word out and keeping the community informed. - Beth Parrish SEPO Website Admin E-Mail: seponewsletter@gmail.com 314-960-6710 Back to Top

Lorraine Lewis & Eileen Anderson Sent 02-22-2019: 2-Page Activity Sheet - You wouldn't think that the Sunshine 2018-2019 winter season 2-page Activities List would be volatile at this point in the season would you? But, OH CONTRAR, it is changing daily. So Valerie and I have been making updates and we believe we have finalized everything we have been informed about. She will have copies available in the office soon if you absolutely need a printed copy. I have posted the updated 2-page document on the Web site. You can find it on the Activities Overview page (www.sunshinecountryclub.com/activities ). Scroll down to the “Daily / Weekly / Monthly Activities & Meetings Overview” section and click on the Activities File. If you DON'T see the Quilt Show and you DO see the Craft Creations Classes & the Guys & Dolls Golf Tournament, you have the correct list. Watch for more info soon concerning these new activities. The 'key' has also been updated so you know where the various activities are taking place. This is hot off the press, so throw away any previous lists you may have accumulated over the season as they are now defunct (spelling?). I've maintained it for several years now but the time has come to “Pass the Torch”. I would like very much to hand off the responsibility for maintaining the list. It's a simple process of adding (or deleting) a line in a spreadsheet, then sending a copy to a web site and to the office. It's a five minute process maybe 3 or 4 times a month. I will provide a step by step procedure and be available in case of a problem. So – If you would be willing to help your fellow neighbors find a reliable worker, send me an e-mail or give me a call. Sunshine is a great place to live because we have great people living here. I am representing the following event. Veterans Day - 11 November - Monday Sunshine is planning a Veterans Day appreciation. In the past it has been a ceremony followed by a Pot Luck. Marian Young knows about the Pot Luck and we are requesting help for this. About the ceremony - If we have a posting of the Colors, we need several folks to carry these flags - John Combs will take the lead. Lenore can do Flag Retirement Ceremony where a Flag will be burned - under safe conditions etc. We need YOU! Last year Helen Perry spoke about Veterans Day, Carolyn Clements passed out Patches for the Veterans etc...…. Call me if you are interested. It would be a shame not to recognize our Veterans. It was great to see so many friends and new residents at the meeting. To stay informed on what events are coming up, please see the bulletin board in the library. Feel free to put your name & number on the sign-up sheets and volunteer for a committee. New ideas are always welcome and a good time is had by all. You can also stay informed about activities and ideas by attending Women’s Club meetings. All ladies of Sunshine are invited. Coffee and donuts are available. Eileen Anderson President Sent 2019-10-12: SEPO RESIDENT COMMUNICATION - The question has always come up “How do we communicate to the board if we can’t talk at the meeting and/or “Why can’t we go to the board meeting?” All board meetings per SEPO bylaws and Texas state law are open meetings and anyone can attend. It is unproductive to have open discussion at the board meeting. The SEPO board adapted the policy, for speaking at a meeting, that has become common practice across the country. Anyone can submit a written request to speak on an issue at the meeting. During the remainder of my term, I will accept any request, written or oral submitted the Friday before the meeting. In the case of the upcoming meeting, the deadline would be Friday, Oct 18 th. Please include your issue to allow me time to possibly prepare a response or solve the issue before the meeting. Suggestion box: Located next to the window in the office is a suggestion box for your ideas, thoughts, complaints etc. If you sign your suggestion you will receive a response. The nature of the “suggestion” will determine whether it will be read at the board meeting. There are 3 suggestions from April, which definitely deserve researching. I apologize we have not responded sooner. All the above are “formal” means of communication. We are a small community; everyone has access to the resident address sheet/directory and the resident e-mail list. The most recent copies of both of these documents are always in the Library and on the Sunshine Web site (www.sunshinecountryclub.com/residents-only ). You know where I live, my phone number, and e-mail address. If you have a question, situation or complaint, let’s discuss it. If you are unhappy with my response, then you should definitely proceed with a formal inquiry. We will be having a Residents Meeting, tentative date per my schedule, Monday, Oct 28th. I have been given many suggestions on how to run this meeting. At this time my thoughts are, it will be an informal meeting and I will be the emcee unless some else wishes to volunteer. The board and SEPO organizations will be making presentations. There will be an “open mike” for questions etc. Thank you, John Chajec SEPO President Sent 2019-10-11: 2020 SEPO BOARD ELECTIONS - Per the SEPO bylaws a nominating committee must be appointed 60 days prior to the election in February, the December board meeting. We have been fortunate to date, but it may not last forever. I would suggest watering your lawn no more than 3 times per week, less is even better (mine is once a week and I've never had an issue). If there is any measurable rain, please hold off watering. If you need help resetting your sprinkler timer, let me or a SEPO employee know, and we will help. If you need a moisture meter to see how your lawn is being affected with less watering, let me or a SEPO employee know, and we will let you borrow one. - Storage Room - Shed | Sunshine Estates
Storage Room / Shed From Newsletter: 2025-10 - As the Women’s Club prepares for another active season, we eagerly anticipate our members’ return and their continued involvement in our upcoming events. It looks to be another amazing season! For all those serving as chair, co-chair, or assisting with any occasion (including holiday dinners and special celebrations) it is important to review the following storage room and shed procedures. The Women’s Club utilizes a storage room located in Retz Hall, as well as two sheds situated within the fenced storage lot. The storage room is a shared space, accommodating the needs of The Rock Club, Quilters, Thursday Night Potluck and also providing shelving for the Men’s and Women’s Golf groups. Each area within the room is clearly marked to ensure easy identification and organization. Last year, our primary objectives focused on improving organization within our storage spaces. This included sorting and labeling items to create a more systematic arrangement. Whenever possible, items were packed away in clear totes to enhance visibility and accessibility. Additionally, efforts were made to eliminate the use of cardboard boxes to further streamline storage and eliminate the bug problem that they often brought. This year, the main objectives will be to complete a high-level inventory that will allow us to monitor what is available, preventing unnecessary purchases, and ensuring that resources are used efficiently. Secondly, we plan to review and remove items that are unlikely to be utilized by the Women’s Club. By streamlining our inventory and freeing up valuable space, we will improve organization and make future activities run more smoothly. If you need help locating specific items or verifying whether an item is available to support your event, please let me know – I’m always happy to assist. This will ensure that you can efficiently find what you need and make the most of our club’s resources. Maintaining order in these spaces involves returning, repacking, and storing items in a manner that they can be reused in the future. Stay tuned for next month’s newsletter. It will contain important detail pertaining to our two storage sheds. Liz Deitrick, Storage Chairperson 512-304-5405 ekdeitrick@gmail.com Back to Top

Other Sunshine Amenities will be displayed soon but are currently: SEPO Email sent to the Sunshine Community on 2025-11-10 - NEED: More Sunshine Properties Info & Pictures (please help me) - It never fails. Every time I'm out on our Sunshine website I see pages which say, "under construction" or "check back soon for more details". I'm sure folks have stopped going to those pages, because some of them have been like that for years. This page is a perfect example. However, I never seem to be able to find time to go around and take pictures of these areas. Of course, there are other pages needing work, but I would like to start with this one. What I'm looking for, to begin with, is someone(s) to take pictures of these areas. Some places could/should have only fix or six pics. Other areas could have lots of pics. I know some of you are excellent at taking pictures, particularly at Women's Club events. How many of you can spare a little time to help me out with this endeavor. DON'T BE SHY. My door (or my email box) is always open. I anxiously await some replies. - NW Welcome Letter | Sunshine Estates
NW - CERT Welcome Letter 2020 -2021 edition SUNSHINE NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH C.E.R.T. – COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM (2020-2021 Season) Lenore Combs, Coordinator, LJCombs44@gmail.com , 956 245 1276 Dear Sunshine Residents, Welcome to our community. This communication is a current edition. Our Neighborhood Watch aims to foster a strong and positive working relationship with the local Police Departments in Harlingen and Combes. “Take a Bite Out of Crime” All residents are the “eyes and ears” of SCCE. Lights On – Lock Up and Look Out for each other. SCCE is the premier NW in our area. Each monthly meeting brings us together to address current concerns and crime prevention techniques. Sgt. Michael Brooks HPD is our liaison HPD recently revised our NW Guide. It is available in the Library. Topics we discuss are how to recognize and report suspicious activity, how to make your home more secure, how to identify your property (Operation ID) and more. This association in SCCE allows neighbors to get to know each other and their routines so that unusual activity can be reported and investigated. (REPORT SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY 956 216 5940) Neighborhood Watch groups are NOT vigilante forces working outside the normal procedures of law enforcement. We REPORT and OBSERVE. We are not a program designed for residents to take a personal risk to prevent crime. A NW cannot guarantee 100% that crime will not occur in Sunshine but we can make life miserable for the Bad Guys. They are experts in crimes of opportunity. The various NW projects below are illustrated. Job descriptions are included. Contact me if you wish to serve or have questions. Orientation is always available. Sunshine CC Estates is a premier active Neighborhood Watch program in Harlingen and you are cordially invited and encouraged to assist us. Sunshine’s volunteer service begun after Hurricane Dolly in July 2008. We meet the 3rd Monday of the month at 3pm in Retzlaff Hall. We have no dues and the Coffee is always on. Our famous Cookie Bakers do a dozen. We discuss security issues and most meetings have a training session presented by the Police or Fire Department etc. We have CPR training complete with an AED trainer and Stop The Bleed classes. There is a Neighborhood Watch display in the Library with a Patrol calendar and up-to-date notices. Please visit. “Inside Sunshine”, a monthly newsletter will have an article but if there is an alert, it will go out on the NW email contact. If you wish to be on the email list, send me an email request and it’s done. PROJECTS: Sunshine NW is involved and we welcome your input and we welcome you to join a project. We have 306 homes in Sunshine. If a resident from each home gave a day's service..... wow! We will work around your schedule. You will be thoroughly oriented. We will make you feel welcome, train you and provide you with almost unlimited opportunities. Evening Patrols: Lenore 956 245 1276 A schedule is prepared by Linda Jones each month with volunteers who sign up for an evening patrol. Hours are available and orientation is a must. “Patrols” is the heart of the program. Bob Saylor or I can arrange to take you on an “area-fam” – patrol routine. You will learn some very interesting stuff about security. We have a dedicated NW Golf Cart . Check it out! We encourage 2 volunteers to patrol as one drives the Golf Cart and the other can take notes, call in suspicious activity etc. Safety is first and your job is to observe and report . No weapons allowed. Daytime Patrols: Are similar and you do need an orientation as well. There are no schedules. These patrols can be done on foot, bicycle, golf cart (NW or personal) or vehicle. We still encourage teams but getting the mail or walking the dog is a good example. The Bad Guys don’t know any different – except you are our eyes and ears. Vendor Patrols: Lenore usually patrols every morning. Residents are cordially invited to also do this do easily while walking around or driving. These are random patrols that are done regularly as we are looking for the Vendor “hanging tag” in the vehicle – or the “Orange card” as the case may be. This could help prevent a robbery in plain sight. Residents are strongly encouraged to have their contractor stop by the Office register with Valerie. Any resident can call me or inquire at the Office. We have a bright Orange Vest complete with reflective stripes. Even if you walk the dog, get the mail or whatever, wearing your vest gives the idea the “Eyes of Sunshine Are Upon Them” - workers, contractors, laborers, seedy visitors included. Oh, don't forget we do have some K-9 patrols too. They are part of the Team and enjoy the ride as well. Block Captains and Co-Captains: These special volunteers make the NW tick. All nine streets should have a volunteer Block Captain as a point of contact. The Co- Captains are those volunteers who are next door to four or six homes – just keeping an eye out. This is simply for communication. This key person is an integral component in keeping the block – the street actively informed - from crime prevention efforts to exchange of information. The NW can flourish or dwindle. These suggestions are not all inclusive. Develop a comms system to distribute vital info to your neighbors. Facilitate the unity. Get new residents involved. Obtain their support. Rekindle older connections of residents who have gotten away from the mission. Remind your street of an upcoming meeting. Block captains and Co-Captains are the glue. Operation ID: We work on this project with the Harlingen PD. Complete a form with your stuff – make, model and serial number etc., and then arrange to get them engraved with your ID number on it. We will give you the recognizable decal for your door. It is good for your insurance Company. Special Projects: 9-1-1 Helpers: These volunteers assist you at any hour of the day, noon or night. For example, if you are contemplating notifying 911 because of an emergency, a volunteer or two can go to your home and stay with you while you call and/or they can go to the gate and watch for the EMTs to get here. (Once you call 911, you are on the phone til help arrives. Having a 9-1-1 Helper is handy). Be-A-Buddy: This project is encouraged and is a more personal choice. For example, I may ask my good friend to be my Buddy and I have their phone number posted on my fridge. This way, if I am contemplating a (? health) concern, they could assist with notifying EMTs and the 9-1-1 Helpers. FYI: There is a red flashing rotating light for the EMTs attached to the front gate. It has to be manually turned on. It aids the EMTs in finding Sunshine as opposed to looking for us in Encore. This little light is visible down past the corner of Gayle Street towards the gas station. Our Front gate is also fitted with an S.O.S. alarm which allows Police, Fire and EMS to enter without having to input a code. (installed 2018) FYI: (Life Alert Systems – several residents have one of these. We do not endorse any particular brand. If you are interested, contact me for info. Sunshine Emergency Contact Information form: We all completed this when we moved in. Keeping it current is the operative word. They are retained in the Office in a cabinet. Old and outdated phone numbers are no help in contacting you. Sunshine Disaster Preparedness Team: Each April, residents are invited to participate in this dedicated meeting regarding Hurricane Preparedness. However, in March, the Women’s Club encourages residents to prepare their homes, update SEPO Emergency form, store lawn objects that could become loose in a storm or flooding and clear Utility pads and poles. Worry Box: These are index cards the CERT Readiness Team uses in case of..... For example, several residents lost their meds during Hurricane Dolly because the power went out and these meds should have been kept cool. Some residents have Oxygen condensers. They need power. So this is a “fluid” Worry Box that any resident may voluntarily give their info when there is an impending concern. We also have a plat of the community that is available to LE and EMTs in case of..... For example, Kathy Wunderlich CERT Team helped provide a working list of summer residents. 2-1-1 Helpers: also known as STEAR – State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry. Cameron County Registry for Mandatory Evacuation: This project gets activated by the Governor. Residents may also register on line. Our philosophy and best bet is to get “Out Of Dodge” as this county program is for those who really need it. However, it is available. Registration does not guarantee evacuation transportation and your info will be kept in the system for a year. Vial Of L.I.F.E. Health History - SCCE RED Envelope (Humans & Pets) This recognized program is available to you. There are 2 red decals, a brief health history form and a baggie. You put one red decal visibly on your door or window for the EMTs – Rescue folks to see and the other red decal is on the baggie which has your current completed health history form in it. This baggie is in or on your fridge – in plain sight! We ask a small donation to the NW for the baggie, 2 red ID decals and 2 health forms. There are forms available as you should keep them current. Keep them in your car or RV too. Readiness Team: This committee drew up an Emergency Plan after Hurricane Dolly. We update/revise it annually as necessary. Whether you are a Winter Texan or not, your input is valuable and you are invited to help us. We meet for the April meeting to stay current and make revisions. Stop The Bleed: In 2019 Sunshine placed 3 “Stop The Bleed” bags in the Library, Woodshop and Worker’s shed. They are not ordinary First Aid Kits but contain special gear for life threatening bleeding. See Lenore & John for a brief class. C.E.R.T. Team: These are Sunshine residents who have completed special training and meet monthly at the Fire Department for information and education. They are knowledgeable in First Aid, CPR, AED, light search & rescue etc. There is usually an annual class offered for CERT training at the Fire Department. Citizen’s Police Academy - at the Harlingen PD. Classes offered twice yearly. Learn about Police procedures and activities. (Criminal Law, Traffic Law, Use of Force, Family Violence, Juvenile Procedures, Handgun Quals, Narcotics, K-9, Baton/OC, SWAT, etc. Sgt. Sal Carmona and Commander Dave Osborne are highly qualified Peace Officers with many talents. They keep the class moving and their guest speakers are well informed. The Chief meets with the class several times as well – proves its worth. This is a class you won’t regret. Last but not least, Sgt. Michael Brooks and Officer Alicia Garcia are the CPA liaisons . They cannot be more supportive and this organization is on the move! Safety & Security measures: Several talented members have good information on these various items. Come to a meeting and see. Vehicle Decals: This square orange reflective decal is on our vehicles (rear window- upper corner – driver side) so we know this vehicle belongs to Sunshine. If someone is in here without one, they may be visited by an inquiring resident. (For example - If you see someone waiting at the gate to come in, and they don't have one - one would wonder WHY? - We suggest you discretely follow them to their intended location. Observe & Report! If they look suspicious – call the 956 216 5940 “ number to report suspicious activity” or 911 if you think it is an emergency. Try to have details for the Police such as a description, the plate and make, model, color etc. If they leave is a big hurry, try to notice which way they headed. Do not attempt to apprehend. We don't want you to get hurt and we have no law enforcement authority. If you think there are weapons involved report it. Refrigerator magnets: report suspicious activity – 956 216 5940. These are business card size magnets. They are free, compliments of the Woman’s Club. This number is answered by a person 24 x 7 from the Police Department Dispatcher on Loop 499. When reporting, we ask you have some details put together such as: Who What Where When How For instance - boy girl, - fat skinny, - old young, hair style, facial hair, etc., color of clothing, (gangs use colors) – make & model, plate of vehicle, any markings like convertible, SUV, pick-up, any drugs - what were they doing, - where they going. It helps! Weapons make a big difference and it is most important for the Police to know as it will upgrade the priority status.. Amber Security Lights on Golf Carts: If you buy a cigarette lighter receptacle for your Golf cart Bob Saylor and some helpers will install it. Then you can outfit your Golf Cart with a security light for patrol. A kind and generous resident donated several of these for us. Vendor Tags – these VENDOR tags hang from the rear view mirror. Residents are encouraged to contact the NW when a vendor comes to do work at your house. We have had several successful scammers in the community. These hanging tags are also issued to residents that may have day and/or night time care givers. The resident may also get them a clicker and assumes this responsibility. Interestingly enough – neighbors are becoming very aware of orange decals and Vendor tags – and they look into it. Also, we have a VISITOR tag which is (TEMPORARY)– if you need it for extended company. Gate Codes & Key Pads & Clickers: Occasionally we change the Front Gate Code. It will not affect your Clickers. Call me 956 245 1276 or the Office for concerns. Storage Lot: for entry (use your gate opener) Cameras: are located throughout the community. There is an Infra-red Sensaphone System in the Storage Lot. We can always use help in looking after them. It is short, sporadic work. Orientation and mentoring is available. Generators: Courtesy of Mark & Debbie Warner – we have our own NW-CERT generator. Several kind and generous residents also make their generators available in case of….. This usually is discovered at our annual Disaster Planning meeting in April. In fact this one was donated to us. Security begins at your house. We are living in a new normalcy and the burden is on you so Lights On - Lock Up and Look Out for each other. If you see something – say something! Timely communication is of utmost importance! Don't forget our monthly meetings (3rd Monday at 3pm) in Retzlaff Hall. Visit the NW – CERT display in the Lounge. Postings are kept current. Contact me if you want to get our email. LJCombs44@gmail.com The Sunshine Neighborhood Watch is a volunteer group that was established with the help and guidance of the HPD to take a bite out of crime. We do not have police powers. We alert police when encountering strange activity. We never should confront suspicious persons. Duty: Observe & Report. Tools of the trade – pencil, note paper and cell phone. LIGHTS ON – LOCK UP AND LOOK OUT for each other Important phone numbers: For emergencies – 9-1-1 Harlingen Police Department – to report suspicious activity: 956 216 5940 Combes Police Department – 956 425 7131 (21626 Hand Road). We also so have a partnership with the Cameron County Constable Office – PCT. 5 Eddie Solis. Other stuff: The Harlingen Police Department is squarely behind us and touts us as being a model community and uses our Neighborhood Watch as an example. Most meetings, Sgt. Michael Brooks joins us with a training session. Oftentimes he is accompanied with another Officer assigned to our district. The National Sheriff's Association and the Harlingen Police Department both have manuals that we use as resources. Training is key to our NW projects and there is a thorough orientation to each one. In keeping with training, Sunshine boasts many CPA members and many C.E.R.T. Team members. Sunshine can certainly hold down the fort in an emergency until professional help arrives. We attend regular meetings at the Police Station and/or Fire House. The Citizens Police Academy is a 40 hour course held at the Harlingen PD. CERT is the Community Emergency Response Team involving a 20 hour course held at the Harlingen Fire Department. Training and drills are ongoing. We participated in a mock disaster for the Texas State Guard. In October 2014, Sunshine was the site for a local Train-The-Trainer course. We stationed a mock disaster drill and many of the Sunshine residents acted as victims. Details are under separate cover. Suffice it to say, Sunshine is empowered by these lessons learned and we give back to the community. Conversely, we enjoy a valuable partnership with both the Police and the Fire Departments. Many members attend these meetings and we volunteer for their special projects too. Chief Darrell Loftus, Harlingen Fire Department was our initial CERT Instructor, occasionally attends our meetings and does a Fire Safety presentation. Several times he has brought Fire Fighter instructors-in-training to Sunshine and discussed their projects. At any rate, we always have informative meetings. Back to Top

I am trying to put together a list of what State you hailed from. Me, I was a proud resident of North Dakota, before finding my way to the Valley. Would you please drop me a note saying what State or Province you called home or will find your way back to this summer. There is no such list in the office and I am working on a project that could use this information. My email address is jwkennedy47@rgv.rr.com or get word to me the best you can. Your help is certainly appreciated. - Jim Kennedy Common Grounds 1 Director Sent 2023-03-25: Amended/Approved/Filed SEPO Bylaws & Covenants on Sunshine website - The SEPO Bylaws and Covenants that were revised and approved at the Feb 21, 2023 Annual meeting were filed with Cameron County on Wed, Mar 23, 2023. Both documents are now available on the Sunshine website from the SEPO Rules page or directly from these pages (Bylaws ) and (Covenants ). Please call with any issues or questions. - Share Nelson, SEPO Board President Sent 2023-03-25: New Access To Kitchen Area - NEW ACCESS TO KITCHEN AREA New keypads have been installed on the door leading into the kitchen from the outside and on the small supply closet just outside of the kitchen door in Retzlaff Hall. A master code will be held by SEPO. When hosting an event or otherwise needing access to the kitchen, a temporary code can be obtained from Valerie in the office. Keep in mind, if there is a weekend event, you should obtain the temporary code prior to Valerie closing the office on Friday. In the event, you have an unexpected need to access the kitchen and Valerie is not available, the President of Women’s Club will assist you. The temporary code will be deleted the following Monday or in an otherwise timely manner following weekday events. Upon leaving the kitchen, the interior doors will be closed and must be physically locked, from inside the kitchen and people will exit from the kitchen to the outside after physically locking that door. If you oversee closing the hall, lock the doors, and exit through the kitchen as described above. The kitchen area is currently open on weekdays from 7:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. If a person in charge of an event wishes to lock the freezer, that person must check the key out from the office. If the freezer remains unlocked, there are cameras in place for security in the hall including the kitchen and storage room which can be reviewed for up to three months, if necessary. Beth has put this new process on the website on the 'SEPO Forms and Processes' page HERE or the 'Access to Kitchen Area' page HERE . - JIM KENNEDY, SEPO DIRECTOR OF CENTRAL AREA Sent 2023-03-25: Combes residents water rates - To all SEPO residents who reside in Combes We are proposing a fact-finding meeting with the former mayor of Combes in regards to the situation with our water costs today and the potential increases in rates to come for SEPO residents in Combes. It has come to our attention that there might be another avenue to investigate to possibly get these rates reduced and we think the former mayor may be able to help us. The meeting will be held at Mary David’s residence, in Combes, at 19958 Poplar. She is also concerned about the high water rates that ALL Combes residents are experiencing, and the potential rate increases to come. The meeting will be held at her house on March 29 at 4:00 pm. Anybody who needs a ride let us know, our car holds 6. Maybe some others could help with rides over there also. Mary has been gracious enough to offer to host a meeting of just the SEPO residents that reside in Combes. It will not include residents who live outside of SEPO. We hope you all can come and listen. We hope it will be well worth your time and effort. And we hope that we all will be able to see some lower rates in the future. And she is right, there are lots of great pictures and information out there already. Hopefully, this will provide a spot for those of you who are wanting to get the word out about things outside of the Sunshine borders, that are non-SEPO Club/Group related. A couple of things; although I would be overjoyed if this FB page would mean I no longer needed to do SEPO Communications, that is not the case. All residents are not on Facebook and those who aren't won't see these postings. Non-Sunshine residents won't be able to join the new FB group and, therefore, they won't see the postings either. The original intent of the Sunshine website, above and beyond keeping residents informed, was to entice potential buyers to come check us out and possibly buy in Sunshine. If you want the entire current community to be kept up-to-date about what's going on here in Sunshine AND also entice potential buyers, you will need to continue utilizing the SEPO Communication processes - emails, website updates and (during the winter seasons) the newsletter as described HERE . Thanks again to Pam Adams. - Beth Parrish, SEPO Communications Sent 2023-03-22: SEPO-Sanctioned Facebook Page is now up and running - At the request of SEPO Board President, Share Nelson, I have created a SEPO-sanctioned Facebook (FB) page for the Sunshine community.
