(From Facebook Oct 30, 2025)
Rock club meets Monday at 1 in the hall. It’s been a while since we have made rocks for veterans so how about we paint some for our Sunshine veterans? Just bring yourself and we have everything you need to paint patriotic and thank you for serving rocks. See Examples Below.     - Cathy Richmond

Newsletter 2025-10:

The idea of spreading kindness through distributing painted rocks has spread worldwide. Over three years ago Karren Amos brought the idea to Sunshine Country Club Estates when she and her husband became new residents and the Rock Club was born.

All residents are invited to attend our meetings. There is a charge of $5 per meeting which covers rocks and a ton of available supplies including several types of paints, brushes, ink pens, stencils, and more. FOR A LIMITED  TIME, THERE WILL BE NO CHARGE AS WE HAVE LOTS OF ROCKS AND SUPPLIES TO START THE SEASON.

We are not artists, but you would never know when you see some of the rocks we have painted! We have several notebooks with sample pictures anyone is welcome to use, and we even have carbon paper to trace ideas onto rocks.

We meet in the hall the First and Fourth Monday of each month from 1-3 PM unless there is a conflict. In that case, we reserve a different Monday to meet.

If you have never painted a rock before, don’t worry as we have several members who can coach you.

We don’t always just paint rocks; we have painted palm fronds and tile and have a donation from our founder of some wood shapes to paint this year!

We have provided patriotic Veteran’s Day rocks to the Harlingen Veterans

Administration for several occasions as well as for our own Sunshine Veterans.

We have also shared our kindness rocks with:

  1. Sunny Glen Children Home in San Benito.

  2. Harlingen Children Home.

  3. Valley View Assisted Living Facility

  4. Gave a rock painting class to residents of the Harlingen Children’s Home.

  5. Gave away over 100 painted rocks at last year’s craft show

You will also find our rocks in the butterfly garden identifying the butterfly friendly flowers planted there. Our rocks are also in the water feature where the bird feeder and water stream are located! Throughout the community you will find beautiful painted rocks adorning homes and gardens.

Come be a part of our fun!     - Cathy Richmond, Sunshine Rockers

Sent 2025-06-09: Rock Club Update -

Anita Smith and I have decided that we will suspend rock club for the summer due to low turnout.
