SEPO Email Sent 2025-11-30: Art Painting Club, is in session weekly -
From Beth Parrish:
With help from the club creators, Janee Bledsoe and Jane Meehan, I have created an "Art Painting Club" web page under the "AMENITIES" tab HERE for them. It currently shows the Winter 2025-2026 scheduled dates and other info from the Newsletters and SEPO Emails. Between this page and the page at the link above combined, they should show you everything I know about this new Club to date. Keep that info and pictures coming ladies and I bet you'll have that hall filled up soon.
From Facebook on Nov 25, 2025 (Janee Bledsoe)
Come join us every Tuesday 1pm for a painting/art class where we have fun and plenty of giggles! We have lots of supplies.

Birding & Nature Club
Sent 2026-01-29: Birding & Nature Club - Info & Interest Survey -
Birding & Nature Club – A legacy of positive impact for SEPO residents
Early members played a significant role in making Texas Avenue what you see today. Previously, the swamp covered most of the current grassy areas where the dogs now walk. The club removed trees and other types of vegetation, brought in fill and worked to level the ground. Periodically, new trees and shrubs were planted, and identification plaques were installed.
The original butterfly garden and fountain were installed. Berms and plantings were made behind the gazebo. Bird feeders were added and maintained. Last summer the metal mesh fence was installed to support vines. The goal of that area is to have native plants that continue to attract birds and butterflies.
The club has held beginning birding classes, led bird walks in the community and around the RV “lakeside”. Field trips have gone to local birding hotspots. Bird books were donated to the library, and a community bird sighting list is maintained there. The club continues to host outside speakers.
Some members have even participated in the annual Audubon Bird Count.
To help keep the Birding & Nature club relevant to current SEPO residents, we would greatly appreciate it if you would take a couple of minutes to at least review the survey. Just click on the following link. You DO NOT have to sign-in to take the survey. Please click SUBMIT to send us your responses.

Birding and Nature Club with the help of the Garden Club are asking for community volunteers to help spruce up the Texas Avenue B+N Garden.
If you can help, let's meet Thursday, January 15th on Texas Avenue from 12:30 to 1:30.

Sent 2026-01-06: Fishing Club Meeting January 14th -
Fishing Club News:
There will be a fishing club meeting on Wednesday, January 14th at 6:00 pm in Retzlaff Hall. It is important for all fishing club members and those interested in joining the club to attend.
Please note that we had planned to take nominations and vote for up to three officers at the December meeting, however, we only had three participants in attendance and did not feel that we should move forward until we had other folks present. Therefore, we postponed the elections to the January meeting.
Additionally, we have a $500 gift certificate that we had received after submitting a request to HEB that we would like to share with local (Harlingen) non profit organizations. Please bring your nomination(s) for a local non profit (which includes a description of their services) that you would like to nominate to receive a portion of the certificate and we will vote on this at the meeting.
As noted previously we need people to step up for officer positions. We did have a couple express interest. If we don't have enough volunteers at our January meeting, we will need to dissolve the club.
If anyone has nominations or questions, please feel free to contact Deb DesLauriers-Eich at 715-821-4552; Bill Peterson at 507-291-7106 or Pat Heinerikson at 816-810-2862.
Thank you.

Pat Heinerikson, Director, Area 1, accepts $400 checks from Bill Peterson, President SCCE Fishing Association to use for improvements/expenses for the billard and the fitness rooms.
The donation was made possible from using proceeds from the fishing club raffle held earlier this year.
Winners from the raffle were as third prize, dining and pet grooming gift certificates, Larry Jeneson. Tony graciously donated the fishing trip back to the club which allowed us to provide a larger donation to SEPO.
Thank you to all to participated and supported the raffle. From Facebook (Deb Eich)

As you are packing to return South, please, remember to pack your old prescription eyeglasses. The Rotary Club recycles them and passes them along to those in need. They want the glasses, not the cases. You can place the eyeglasses in the Rotary box located in the library along the south wall.

Since the flood last spring, many of you are driving different vehicles. Please, contact Valerie in the office or me, Jean Burgoine, if you need a Sunshine sticker for your rear windshield. This little sticker identifies your vehicle as belonging in the Sunshine community. This makes it easier for the people on Neighborhood Watch. Several years ago, my car broke down on the expressway. A passing driver from Sunshine noticed my sticker and came to help me. That little sticker does a lot of good.
