Sent 2025-03-31: UPDATE: Water Damaged Items Pickup -

Harlingen is going to start picking up any water damaged items in the city as early as tomorrow, as long as they are on your curb and not in your cart.

They couldn't tell me when they will be coming to Sunshine - just sometime this week. But be prepared tomorrow just in case.

I'm trying to find out if Combs will be doing something similar. Stay Tuned.

- Tom Perrier (SEPO Board)

Sent 2025-03-31: Trash Pickup -

Hey, Just had a conversation with Lenore about a conversation she had with the trash guy. If you put carpeting in your trash container they won’t pick it up. But if you pile it by the end of your driveway they will be sending a truck around to pick it up. I don’t know when that is, but I’m making calls to find out.

Will post when I know more.

- Tom Perrier (SEPO Board)

Sent 2025-03-31: Investigate before scheduling flood aftermath repairs -

It’s possible there are ‘ambulance chasers’ (or whatever you might call someone who may be preying on flood victims) hovering around Sunshine, even soliciting for business by posting signs throughout.

We would like to WARN people about not jumping right away to schedule work to be done by these folks – especially not before you do a thorough investigation into their work ethic / background.

Apparently, this same thing happened during the last flood a few years ago and also after hurricane dolly – with nightmare stories after the work was done.

So please be careful.     - SEPO Board

Sent 2025-03-29: Volunteer Luncheon Monday 3/31/25 -

Hello, neighbors!

What a whirlwind the last few days have been! We’re incredibly grateful that everyone is safe and sound. The strength and determination of our community truly inspire us!

On a brighter note, we’re excited to share that our Hall is in great condition, and our volunteer luncheon is still happening! If you’ve registered, we’re all set for you!

Come take a breather from the recent weather challenges and enjoy a delicious lunch, entertainment by Brett Marshall and Roy Garcia, and, of course, some unforgettable stories from the storm of 2025!

Please feel free to call or email us with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,     - Randy Davis, SEPO President & Pam Davis, Women’s Club President

Sent 2025-03-29: Roads Update -

Right now it’s 12” at Texas Ave. The shallowest way out is Missouri to Montana. Please drive slowly so you don’t make waves and stay in the middle of the road. It’s the high point.     - Tom Perrier (SEPO Board)

Sent 2025-03-29: Sunshine website: Flood "Lost & Found" AND "other important info" page now available -

I just took time out from cleaning up my own flood damage and saw there was some great info that had been sent to me. So I sat down and created this new 'Flood 2025' "Lost & Found" and "Misc Info" page on the website. It's under the Residents tab or go to it directly from HERE.

For those of you who sent pics of the flood waters near you and on the golf course, I'm going to try and put some of those on a separate page soon.

NOTE: I will NOT be sending out a new email whenever I post something on the page above. So please just keeping checking back periodically.

Also - If you have questions please contact the person who sent me the post. Thx everyone.

Sent 2025-03-29:  Still have High Water in Sunshine -

Hi all,   The water is still to high at Minnesota and Michigan, and Texas, Montana and Minnesota to get out, without water coming in your vehicle. And a great possibility of stalling your vehicle.

Also I know some of you are having electrical issues but please don’t mess with your outdoor meter/breaker. They’ve been sitting in water and could be a electrocution hazard.

Stay safe.     - Tom Perrier (SEPO Board)

Sent 2025-03-28: Signs -

Heads Up -

I’ve placed 3 “5 mph No Wake” signs on Texas Ave, Minnesota St. and Michigan Dr.

They are in the middle of the road, attached to a heavy steel truck rim.

If you hit them they will damage your vehicle.

Please observe the No Wake.

About an hour ago a red Chevy/GM truck was observed by residents on Minnesota creating a large wave that damaged several garage doors and skirting on their homes.

We will be looking into this

Please slow down

Sent 2025-03-28: Sewage System -

It sounds like the sewage system is not working so try not to use your drains in your house. It’ll just end up backing up if it’s not already. Don’t flush your toilet.

And I don’t recommend walking in the water without boots there’s probably sewage in it.

Sent 2025-03-27 (From SEPO Facebook): DONATIONS REQUEST: Christmas for Jefferson Elementary 2nd graders -

This is a request to all residents of Sunshine country Club Estates. I am planning a special Christmas for Jefferson Elementary 2nd graders(and possibly 1st). This school is 99%economically disadvantaged. My plan with your help will be to provide them each with a backpack filled with pencils, crayons erasers, coloring books, a toy from Santa and Mrs Claus...Barbies for the girls and a truck or car for the boys, a pillow and pillowcase(cases being made thanks to the quilting group), small stuffed animals, treats, and music. Many of you have already left for up north, if you find good deals on any of these items and would like to contribute, I can guarantee these children will be appreciative. I've experienced it in Brownsville. If you would prefer to contribute with a financial donation that will be used to purchase missing items or possibly cover another classroom, you can deposit a check earmarked for Jefferson but made out to me, Mary Hull or Pam Davis in the library. I have set up a checking account for this purpose only! I also have containers in the library for those of you that are full timers and want to drop them off. I almost forgot. It was suggested we put together a basket for the teachers as well . So tissue, hand sanitizer, kids scissors etc all are welcome. Thank you in advance for considering donating. And I will be in need of Santa's helpers that day. You'll never regret it. Let's bring Sunshine to some needy children.

I will also post the above list of items requested in the library.

I hope this can become an annual event.     - Mary Hull (from SEPO Facebook)

Sent 2025-03-16: Streets: Reflectors etc -

I’ve had some questions about the reflectors that were added to a few of the streets in Sunshine. Last February ‘24 I posted that I would be adding signs and other visuals to the streets. And I want to say thank you for the many supportive conversations I’ve had regarding these efforts to encourage slower speeds in Sunshine! Thx

Sent 2025-03-04: No March Neighborhood Watch meeting !!!!! -

Dear Friends

Because of a conflict on Monday 17 March (St Patrick's Day), we shall call off the Neighborhood Watch meeting at 3p - Monday 17 March.  See ya on April 21st.

Also, the CERT class was postponed for now as Fire Chief Darrel Loftus is doing a new class of Firefighters and he is very busy.  But count on your return in the Fall for a class.

A class is usually 5 or so weeks (usually one weekly 4 hour class)  Well worth the time & effort.

Our books are even ready for us. I still have your names and we can probably take a few more.

Anyway, y'all have a safe trip home.

BTW - Over at Encore Resort ..... a man had a heart attack, dropped on the floor, one of the NW folks started CPR, another called EMS and ----- the man is alive and well. He was taken to the hospital - is stable and doing well.

So if anyone needed a push to take a class on CPR - you just had it.

I'll be around if anyone has questions.

PS:  The Police Department will most likely have a Citizens Police Academy in the Fall - if you're interested.
