Sent 2023-12-24: CORRECED: Activity Requests while SEPO Office is closed -

Although we are celebrating the holidays, some of us here at Sunshine have commitments that we are working on that require us to continue planning, holding meetings etc. during this time.

As you were all informed last week, the SEPO Office is closed until Tuesday, Jan 2, 2024 (except for Friday afternoon this week).

Therefore, this morning I discussed the following with Share Nelson, SEPO Board President. If you have any new/updated Activity/Meeting Requests that need to be processed while the office is closed, you may either email them to sepoenews@gmail.com or bring them by my house @ 1940 W Iowa Ave. I will make sure there are no conflicts with the SEPO Calendar, get Board approval and return to you the "approved or denied" copy of your request. Sent 2023-12-22: 2023 Christmas Bird Count -

The Christmas Bird Count will take place next Saturday, Dec 30.

The Bird Count is a national volunteer event. We count the number of species and the number of birds of that species. Results are tabulated throughout the United States. The results are an indication of how well or poorly the bird population is doing.

The Sunshine Birding and Nature Club has participated in this event for many years. BUT NOTE: This event is open to anyone in the community. We will assemble at the Gazebo on Texas Avenue at 7:30 a.m. next Saturday. We will be divided into groups with assigned areas to cover. We need bird identifiers, bird sighters, and tally keepers. No special talent is needed for the last two (2) jobs listed. We will go out on foot, in golf carts, and in cars. Bring binoculars.

Again - This event is open to anyone in the community. Please join us.

- For more information contact Ralph Peterson (607) 590-0606.

Sent 2023-12-22: 2024 SEPO Election Committee Announcements -

Hi Everyone - I figure this week you are well into the Christmas spirit and the last thing you want to think about is 'volunteering' to work on a committee. However, this is exactly the time of year that SEPO Election Committees get into gear.

If you attended the Dec 19 Special Board Meeting or have viewed the video of this meeting, you are aware that I have volunteered to be the 2024 SEPO Election Committee chairperson and the Board voted unanimously to appoint me to that position.

I have already been working on some of the upfront committee tasks. I have updated the Election Committee Guidebook, thanks to a collaborated effort of both myself and your SEPO Board President, Share Nelson. It is almost ready to present to the entire Board for their approval.

I'm also working on a Project Plan of all of the tasks - from the smallest of small to the largest of large - that need to be performed between now and when I turn over the tallied vote count to the Board at the Feb 20 Annual Shareholders Meeting.

So the next 'large' task for me to accomplish is to fill seats (so to speak) on the committee. I currently have five volunteers, some of which can only help part-time. I'm looking for 10-15 (and possibly more) people to do a variety of tasks, the largest of them being "Stuffing the Ballot Envelopes" sometime around Jan 14-15 AND "Counting Votes" between the 1 pm and 3 pm meetings on Feb 20.

If you think you might be interested at all in helping me out, give me a call to discuss. If I don't get enough volunteers in the next few days, I'm going to start cold-calling. Wouldn't you rather volunteer before hearing me beg on the phone. 😁

Thanks in advance for your consideration of this matter.

Happy Holidays !!!

Beth Parrish

Sent 2023-12-19: WINE BOTTLES -

Over the years, we have been supplying long time Sunshine residents, the Finks, with wine bottles. They would take them across the border to the local church for Christmas projects, which would be made by the local women. Bertha Fink is looking for wine bottles. In the past, I would drill holes for lights, that is no longer necessary.

Please drop them off at Bertha's house, 1932 W Iowa Ave or mine, 4129 N Nebraska St.

It's pretty close to Christmas, so drink up folks, it's for a good cause.

Drop the filled ones off at my house, I'm always available for a good cause!

Sent 2023-12-08: Sunshine Homes for 'Sale' or 'Rent' -

Hi fellow Sunshiners:

As I've recently been touring through our wonderful neighborhood after my long hospital stay, I've noticed there are several 'For Sale' signs in front of homes. However, nobody from those residences has contacted me to put your 'For Sale' home information on the Sunshine website.

I know firsthand that listing your home out there can be very beneficial to you. One of my nurses in the hospital said she is looking to buy in here, and she checks our website daily to see if anything new comes up for sale.

I'd be more than happy to list your home for you - and it's FREE. Instructions concerning how to do that are HERE.

If you have any questions, contact me per my info below.

Sent 2023-12-06: REMINDER: 'Toys for Tots' & 'Food Drive' -

It has come to my attention that there is hardly any food or toys in the library for our drives. I know that in the past our community has been very generous at this time of year. So this is a friendly reminder that we are having a toy drive for 'Toys for Tots' and a 'Food Drive' for Valley Haven Children's Home/Fishes and Loaves.

You can drop off your toys (please have them wrapped and marked on the bottom the age and gender) and non-perishable food items in the library. You have until 12/15 for the toy drive and 12/20 for the food drive. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Sent 2023-12-06: Casino Night -

Casino Night is Friday, February 2nd and this is a major fund-raising event for the Sunshine community. We are in the planning stage of this event and are looking to the residents to help us out in making this event a huge success. So while you are doing some Christmas shopping maybe you could pick up a gift card to your favorite restaurant or business, donate a service, purchase or make a gift basket or make an item or pick up something new that you think would make a great raffle prize.

We are also doing something new this year - we are trying to get more table sponsors within our community. Someone from your street will be knocking on your door to ask if you would donate $10 toward being a Street Sponsor. It costs $100 per table per sponsor, but if ten people go in on one street, then we have a new table sponsor! Throughout the evening of Casino Night the sponsors will be announced and everyone sitting at that table will receive extra chips. So if someone comes knocking at your door - it is your neighbor asking you to contribute toward sponsoring a gaming table for Casino Night!

Thanks for your contributions!

Sent 2023-12-04: TRIAL RUN: Dumping your Bulky Items -

ATTENTION RESIDENTS

We are attempting to try out a system that could benefit our residents here in the community to get rid of items that you are unable to get out to the dump due to transportation.

The Maintenance Crew will leave a trailer out in the storage area in front of the Sand Pit where you can place items on:

TUE, December 5th

AND

WED, December 6th

There are a few items that we are asking to not be placed there:

  • No Batteries

  • No Tires

  • No items that may contain Hazardous Chemicals (Oil)

  • No Household Trash

Let's see how this system works for us!!
