SCCE MEN'S LEAGUE RULES OF PLAY (Updated 02/22/2024) Fairways Fairways are defined as any portion of the course not considered to be out of Bounds”, a “Hazard” (sand or water), or the “Green”. 1. Ball may be moved 12 inches on the fairways at any time (no closer to the pin). 2. Ball may be moved off of bare ground (no closer to the pin). 3. Ball may be “Picked, Cleaned and Placed” at any time except in a hazard or trap. 4. An unplayable ball may be moved 2 club lengths from the following: (no closer to the pin). A. In bounds but next to “Out of Bounds” marker or wall. B. Ground under repair. C. Short of going into the water or where Water Hazard impedes stance. D. Man-made objects. Out of Bounds and Water Hazards Course boundaries are indicated by white post and/or low cement or wood barriers. A ball must be completely beyond the boundary line to be considered “Out of Bounds”. Water hazards boundaries are considered to be inside vertical face, and it’s vertical extension, of the cement sand bag walls of the hazard. A ball hitting the vertical face of the sand bag wall and falling into the water without touching ground beyond the vertical extension is deemed to be in the hazard and not be the point at which it entered the hazard. A ball lodging in the wall (space between cement sand bags) of a water hazard is deemed to be in the hazard. Drop point for lodged ball will be where it last crossed the hazard boundary before lodging. All balls “Out of Bounds” or in a “Water Hazard” will be played from the point they crossed the “Out of Bounds” boundary or “Water Hazard” boundary. The ball will be dropped no more than 2 club lengths from the point where it crossed the boundary line (no closer to the pin) (1penalty stroke). If the shot that enters “Out of Bounds” or a “Water Hazard”, from a teed ball, the player has the option to re-tee and incur the standard “Stroke and Distance” penalty. ie. Player hits ball OB or in the water, re-tees and lands in the “fairway”. The player now lies 3. LEAGUE DOES NOT USE DROP ZONES. Exception to above rule. If a ball is hit from the 7th tee into the “Out of Bounds” behind the 6th green or if a house obstructs the view to the 7th green, the ball may be put into play by dropping in front of the 7th tee box with a one stroke penalty or may be reteed with utilizing the standard “Stroke and Distance” rule. Sand Traps Grounding club to improve your lie or a practice swing that touches the sand is a 1 stroke penalty. Except as indicated in Picking up your ball (1 stroke penalty). A ball may be picked up and marked when 2 balls are side-by-side in a trap. The ball may not be cleaned and must be placed as close as possible to the original position and condition of the lie after the first player hit (no penalty) Casual Water “Casual Water” is defined as any water pooling on the course in any place nor designed as a “Water Hazard”. Pooling can be considered to occur if water is evident around the sole of your shoe when you stand in a wet spot. When in doubt, consult with playing partners. If doubt still exist, play the original and a provisional and consult with the tournament director when the round is completed. When in “Casual Water”, the ball may be moved back or laterally to gain complete relief no closer to the pin). No penalty. Bridges All bridges will be treated as cart paths. If a ball comes to rest on a bridge the ball may be played as it lies or it may be dropped at the closest point of relief, no closer to the hole, and be played without penalty. Tee Box The “Tee Box” is defined as the area on the teeing ground between the tee markers. The “Tee Box” extends from the front edge of the tee markers to a point two club lengths behind the front edge of the tee markers. Only the ball must be within the tee box when teeing off. If the ball is outside the Tee Box when put into play a one stroke penalty will be assessed and the ball must be re-teed and put into play from the Tee Box. When teeing off, a tee must be used. All whiffs are counted. A whiff is when you address the ball, swing and miss. If a ball does not clear the tee ground, the ball will be played as it lies or opt for re-teeing with a 1 stroke penalty. Greens The “Green” is that area of closely mowed grass surrounding the cup. The “Fringe is the slightly longer grass surrounding the green. For our purposes, the “Fringe shall be treated as “Fairway”. When marking a ball, the marker should be placed behind the ball. If the ball is in the line of another player’s putt the marker may be moved to the side as far as deemed necessary by the player whose line is infringed. The ball will be returned to its original position before putting. Failure to return to return the ball to the original position will result in a one stroke penalty. If the penalty is assessed for failure to putt from the original position, the ball must be placed in the original positioned and putted. A two stroke penalty will be assessed if, while putting on the green, you play from another player’s marker A one stroke penalty is assessed for your ball striking another player’s ball that is lying on the “Green” while putting your ball from any spot on the “Green”. A two stroke penalty is assessed for hitting a club or flagstick lying on the “Green”. The flag may be in or out when chipping or putting from the fringe. If your ball is on the “Green” and the hole cannot be clearly seen, you may ask to have it attended. The flag must be released or removed before the ball gets to the hole. If the ball hits the pin while being tended it’s a 1 stroke penalty. Once a player starts putting he has control of the green and may putt out if he so desires. All putts must be holed. No gimmies! Failure to complete the hole will result in disqualification. Other Rules or Situations Not Covered by Above Rules: USGA rules will deem to be in place when situation or rulings not covered by the mentioned rules occur. In all situations the Rules Committee, made of the League Officers, or their designee(s), will make the final ruling when disputes or rules questions occur. If, while playing, a situation occurs that the players are unsure of, play a provisional ball with deemed relief as well as the original ball as it lies and the Rules Committee will make a determination of the correct sore for the hole after the round. Common Golf Courtesy Exit the "Green" as soon as all golfers have finished putting. Record your scores on the next tee. Do not drive or park carts within 15 feet of the fringe of the "Green". REPAIR ALL BALL MARKS ON "GREEN". Repair and replace all divots on the "Tee Box" or fill them with available sand. Share carts when possible! Rake sand traps after use. Do Not run golf carts through casual water. No practice chipping to the "Greens". Do not spend excessive time looking for a lost ball (3 minutes should be Maximum limit). No loud noises while a golfer is taking a shot. Golfers 90 years or older may hit from the women's "Tee Box" if they desire. Do not drive golf carts between sand traps and "Greens". Practice putting only on the PRACTICE GREEN. Be respectful of workers. Wait till they have completed their task, have waved you up, or are aware of you hitting at them. The annual Bake Sale, Raffle and Craft Sale held by the SCCE Women's Club will be Saturday, December 15th at Retzlaff Hall. The doors will open at 8:00am with cinnamon rolls and coffee available for $1. Last year for the first time Glenda and Jerry Wetherbee made lafse that morning for us, and what a treat! They sold out in no time. Glenda and Jerry have generously agreed to come back again. This is a great time to come relax and enjoy coffee and a treat with your neighbors and visit. Don't forget to buy some homemade goodies to take home also. We are incorporating a cookie walk into the bake sale so you have the option of having more variety. Another thing we are doing this year for the first time is a "Pie a Month" (for 6 months) auction. We will be selling raffle tickets, $1 ea or 6 for $5. You will be able to view the items on display before the drawing, which will be held about 11am. We already have quite a number of nice items donated. Crafters from the Estates are ready to "wow" you with their hand crafted items. What a great time to do some Christmas shopping. The Women's club has been able to help support our park by purchasing needed equipment and accessories in the past with funds raised. Many of you heard discussed at the November meeting the plans for purchasing a new sound system. This is something that will benefit everyone as it would be used for parties, programs, meetings, memorials and basically all events. Please consider making a generous donation of baked items to make our bake sale a success. The bake sale begins at 8am on Saturday, December 15th in Retzlaff Hall. You may bring donations of baked goods to the hall Friday evening from 6 - 8 pm or beginning Saturday morning at 6:00am. On Saturday morning you must come to the kitchen door as we will not unlock the hall until 8am. Please wrap your items with clear plastic wrap and add a bow or ribbon. Label your item and price it. You all did a wonderful job baking, donating prizes and money and gifts, working and purchasing. We owe a special thanks to a wonderful committee: Diane Tewell, Judy Berning, Linda Braden, Sue Ann Crapsey, Jan Anderson and our raffle chair Marian Young. Also thanks again Mom for being our door greeter. Glenda and Jerry Wetherbee came back again this year and made lefse. More popular than last year, they sold out by 9:30am. What a treat people really enjoy! We also had our cinnamon rolls and coffee for residents to enjoy and visit with neighbors. Thanks roll bakers. We had a lot of crafters this year with a variety of beautiful products to purchase. This all came together to make a very successful event. Wish we could thank each of you individually, you have made this such a success. We do great things working together, thank you all. Marla Welch and Jane Olson *************** 12-15-18 ----- Sat ----- Golf Cart Parade (Lenore Combs) COMPLETE Christmas Golf Cart Parade and Cookie Baking Contest 15th of December 2018 The “true meaning of Christmas” is a phrase that began to appear in the mid 19th century when a shift toward a more secular culture began. But some feel that the true meaning of Christmas is actually in bringing the greatest happiness to others – take Charlie Brown vs. the Grinch. So – end result, many participants and on lookers enjoyed this evening – that’s the Sunshine way! Thanks to all who turned out for this event and made it special – from participants to judges to helpers and to spectators. There was lots of work behind the scenes to make this successful. The Harlingen Police Department lead out followed by our Neighborhood Watch McGruffmobile and assorted Golf Carts. Our Christmas Chorus sang assorted carols along with the Christmas Tree Lighting. The Harlingen Fire Truck brought Santa who arrived at Retzlaff Hall for photo ops. Cocoa and cookies were served plus we inherited the delicious left overs for the Bake Sale (Jane Olson et al). What a day! The wonderful Elves deserve a huge round of applause – Kat Sunders, Marian Young, Sally Hardy, Helen Perry, Sherry Gardner, Mary Hendrickson, Pam Lacy Janice Drost The awards ceremony began with the winners of the decorated Golf Carts: 1st Place Irene Philips, 2nd Place Aida Leach and 3rd Place Dee Novak. The award winning cookie prizes were presented to: Sherri Gardner for 1st Place, 2nd Place Wanda Levencourt and 3rd Place Mary Hendrickson. We have decided to step down as Casino night co-chairs. It has been an interesting and at times overwhelming experience. We feel we have it fine tuned now and it is a great fund raiser for the Women's Club. Therefore, it is our hope that someone else within our community would enjoy the challenge and continue this project and keep it going for the Women's Club! We feel that if it is dropped at this point, it would be difficult to reestablish, as well could end up with higher costs. So, we are hoping there are a few of you out there in our community, that would be willing to shadow us in our last year and see what it takes to operate. Now would be a great time to step up and learn the ropes! You are welcome to attend our next meeting on Tuesday and discuss any questions you may have or give either one of us a call if you are interested. Thanks to you all, Linda Abernethy (From 02-262019 E-NEWS): Casino Night Thanks you - Well, another successful Casino night has come and gone! We would just like to thank everyone for their support of this event, not only this year but over the past 6 years! We never knew that Casino night would grow into such a popular event, but we are sure glad it did. Without the large number of volunteers it takes to run this event, our success would not have been possible. We are so grateful to all who have volunteered their time, effort and financial support to our Casino night. As well as to all of our Sponsors and all who attended our event and helped to make it one fun and exciting evening! Thank you as well to all who sing our praises, it is very much appreciated but humbling. Because it really does "take a village" and what a village we have here in Sunshine Estates. Please keep supporting the Women's Club events, as well as all the other events that make our community so fun and vibrant! See y'all around Sunshine and thanks again! Most sincerely Dale Hopfner & Sherri Gardner Past Casino night co-chairs *************** 03-14-19 ----- Thu ----- D ance/Fundraiser: Music by The Classics Band (Deb Robins & Tiffany Prater) COMPLETE (FROM FEB 2019 NEWSLETTER): The March Mystery Party was canceled for this year but a new event is being planned for the same night, March 14th. Watch for more info about this event! (FROM 02-15-2019 Women's Club Mtg): The March Women's Club Activity will be a Dance in Retzlaff Hall. Music will be provided by The Classics Band. Wade Prater is a member of this band. They will play from 7 pm - 10 pm. Bring your own Snacks and Drinks. Watch for more details as they are finalized. Ronald McDonald Wish List (From 03-09-2019 E-News): Hi All! This is a reminder that on this coming Thursday, March 14, 2019 the Women's Club will be putting on a dance/fundraiser donating to Ronald McDonald House Charities. Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Rio Grande Valley supports our community by providing a "home-away-from-home" for families of critically ill or injured children at local hospitals and clinics. We hope you plan to attend so that you can help them continue with the important work they do! A representative from this charity will also be in attendance. In order to supply them with items they need we are asking for everyone who attends this event to either give a $5 donation per person or bring an item from the wish list. Their Wish List is posted in the Library and can also be found on the Web site by clicking on the icon located here (www.sunshinecountryclub.com/activities-details ). ALSO - Bring along some extra money so that you have a chance to win one of the many prizes that have been donated and that will be given away/raffled off. Remember, this is all for a very good cause. The dance is being held in Retzlaff Hall from 7 PM to 10 PM . Music is being provided by the Classics Band (of which Wade Prater is a member). This is a BYOB and snack type of event . AND - You may think the committee isn't aware that this is the normal Thursday Pavilion Happy Hour event day. BUT - You would be mistaken. We'd very much like folks to come out before the dance and join in the fun of the Pavilion Happy Hour. You might even be able to snatch a sizzling hot dog or two off the grill. NOTE - This is no signup for this event. Just come and get your groove on and enjoy your neighbors and friends. This will be one of the last events (and definitely the last Womens' Club event) before most of us head north for the summer. Thanks in advance for your support. Tiffany and Debbie (From 03-17-2019 E-News): Donation Results - Ronald McDonald House From Beth : I saw Deb had posted the below on the SunshineCCE Facebook page. I know lots of you SEPO e-mail suscribers don't use Facebook so I thought it would be nice to share this with others. From Deb Robins : A big thank you to all of our generous neighbors. We were able to raise over $1400.00 for Ronald McDonald House! For those of you that missed the party, but would still like to donate, please feel free to drop by my home (4129 N Minnesota). I will be dropping off their wish list items, gift cards and money on Tuesday. Again, thank you for being so generous. Back to Top

In Memoriam Tributes 2021 Marian Seelye (September 8, 2021) It is with a sad heart to announce the passing of Marian Seelye, mother of JoAnne Anderson, and past resident of Sunshine. Marian had just come to stay with JoAnne and ultimately make a trip here. Marian laid down for a nap, JoAnne went to check later and she had gone peacefully with the Angels. Marian was special - she was the SCCE Choir Director several years ago for many years and assisted putting on many wonderful shows here, especially at the holidays. She also had her Choir group sing occasionally with the Sunday Night Sunshine Jammers and was a presence in many of Lassey's productions. And she made some great dishes for our Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. We will miss you but remember the "Good Old Days". God Bless American and God bless you and your family. Condolences can be sent to JoAnne Anderson (daughter) 22931 185th Street Detroit Lakes, MN 56501 Lenore J Combs 956 245 1276 2020 Steve Phillips (May 3, 2020) Sorry for short email earlier, not thinking real clear. If I may share some more... " My husband, Steve, passed away hours ago....Saturday night. He had another pulmonary embolism, he had one about five years ago. He has not felt good for weeks, but the Dr couldnt do a MRI because of covid. (Only emergencies, and his wasnt at the time) I dont know that they would have discovered it if so, but they did last time. I followed the ambulance to the hospital, and was with him about a hour before the Drs told me there was nothing they could do, and he was gone. He passed in the ambulance, but they recovered him, only to lose him in the hospital. The Drs said he had huge blood clot in both lungs and kidney failure. I'm still in shock. (I have asked family not to travel here, as it would be devastating to cause covid virus in anyone) Steve and I were very private people, but we dearly love our family and friends...in Texas and Oklahoma, also our dear friends we have made in Harlingen. Steve was incredibly proud of being the President of the men's golf here in Sunshine Country Club Estates and his three best buddies he golfed with daily. Also, his music making pal Wade, who would attest to what an amazingly gifted musician Steve was. Steve was the smartest person I've ever known and I will cherish our ten years together. We rock and rolled many nights away. His best friends in Dallas enjoyed his musical talents long before I met him, and were like family to him (and me). I dont imagine there will be a service here, with covid virus...but in about a month I will take his ashes/remains to Dallas, hopefully, and celebrate his life with friends and family there. I'm so sorry Steve's son, Jonathan has lost his father, along with Jonathan's wife and four children, and his other family members. Also, my family will miss him dearly. Ten years can make a lifetime of memories, and it did. Please be patient if I dont answer calls or the door too quickly, I am still trying to figure out what life is now, and that will take some time. We all have losses, recovering from them is an individual journey. My # is 214 549 3993 if any questions. Tomorrow seems far away right now. ♡ Irene Phillips Back to Top
